The California International Marathon 2022

The Running Fit Lab Closes Our Winter Season at CIM

We have been racing the California International Marathon (CIM) for over six years. It has quickly become our end-of-year tradition. Training in the winter can be challenging, so having a goal race is a perfect motivation. CIM offers a two-person relay, which is a fantastic team-building experience!

This year we had five teammates run the marathon and three relay teams. While no one got to run the BQ bell, some got PRs and are one step closer to reaching their Boston Marathon qualification goals. I In years past, we have had many clients qualify for Boston at CIM. Many say it is because it is a downhill course, but most of the first half is rolling hills. It is more because the relay runners act as excellent rabbits.

Our Favorite Places To Visit in Sacramento During CIM

We love to stay in downtown Sacramento for the race. Typically, we stay at the Sheraton, Hyatt, or Residence Inn. They are all within walking distance of the busses to the start. Plus, they are close to the Old Spaghetti Factory, where we like to have our team carbo-load dinner. Make sure to grab reservations at least a week before the race. They book up quickly. Bucca Di Beppo by Arden is a good backup if you can't get in.

If you have family coming to cheer you during the marathon, tell them there are two Temple Coffees within walking distance of the finish line. We love to grab a latte or two before we head out of town. In the mood for a more extensive breakfast? Grab an outside table at Crepeville. It is right on the race course, and you have a fantastic breakfast.

Tips for Running the California International Marathon

  • Prepare for rain. More often than not, it rains during the race. So pack trash bags to wear at the start line. Bonus they also will keep you warm!

  • You will be tempted to go out too fast. Everyone does! It is the excitement of the start of the marathon, plus the first mile or so is downhill. But remember those rolling hills. Slow down and go at your planned pace.

  • Run your race. The relay teams will make the pace fast! Use them to motivate you but don’t get discouraged by the fresh legs. They won’t be facing the wall as the marathoners do.
